I have been wondering why I can't ever get a really sharp photo of dragon flies' eyes. This extreme closeup (200%) shows why -- they aren't faceted, they are pebbled!
Yes, it's a closeup. The lighter blue is the eye itself. The white is the mouth part, and the black looks like a nose.
So the eye is the big lighter blue section. Click the picture and you'll see the texture on the surface of the eye. This is why I can't get what looks like a sharp focus on the eye itself.

This is a close up of a dragon fly's eye, right? I basically see a light blue, a whitish and a darker black or blue portion. Are they all the eye?
