So this sign actually and really exists on Route158 along the Outer Banks in North Carolina (either in Nags Head or Kitty Hawk).  I didn't go into the small store, so I can't report on what this really is about.

It's not a weirdly specific sign, but it's certainly weird.

Well the "Crisis Pregnancy" centers have been around forever. Theyre a classic bait and switch. They are generally run by religious pro lifers, and are intended to be sort of abortion traps.

The idea is that if you have a distraught teenager who finds herself pregnant, and doesn't know what to do, and thinks maybe she should get an abortion, so she pulls out the phone book or what have you and walks into this place. Where in fact abortion is not offered, nor are referrals to abortion clinics, but rather high pressure emotionally charged arguments against abortion. Sadly, they don't usually offer adoption services either.

All legal, as it should be, but a pretty scummy tactic, IMO.

I have no clue what is up with the thrift shop.

I should clarify (months late), that this sign was atop a stand-alone building... it wasn't a Crisis Pregnancy Center *next* to a Thrift Shop, apparently it was a *combination* Crisis Pregnancy Center & Thrift Shop.

Silly you.

And yes, the practice you outline is hideous.
