Winter Warmer
You can see the gallery of this photo shoot here.
My favorite seasonal beer is Anchor Brewing's "Our Special Ale". I love the winter spices in such a dark beer, and I think Anchor does it the best. This year is not my absolute favorite (I think 1998 might have been the best year they've ever had), but it's very good. I'll crack open a selection from previous years tonight to see how they are aging -- I think I have a 1998, a 2001 and a 2004 at least.
I also got a new remote shutter release for Christmas, so I was able to take these in low, warm light. The pictures aren't as absolutely sharp as they might have been, because the exposure was over a second, but they are sharp enough considering the exposure time, and I could never have done it without the remote release.

Those of you who haven't checked out the whole series, should. It's oh so droll.
Is this the same cable release that comes with the Pentax *IST-DS, or a differnt one?
I've used the stock cable relsease to capture my 10-month-old son's smiles. I don't have to be behind the camera and I can pull the trigger when I see him react to something I'm doing.
I love the whole series. Beautiful beer and you captured it well. Cheers!
It's the "f-series" wireless shutter release, and it's how I took my new bio shot from about 15 feet away.
I really like the series and think it was a great idea for a shoot! I also like the new pict of you- very becoming!
Thank Luke for the idea, it was he who decided that a shot of Anchor's beer was a good idea. He was right, but he and I got a little scorn from Beth who thinks we are incredibly geeky.
Scorn? Wow. I couldn't even entertain the thought that it could be geeky. When i pour a beer, the first thing I do is take in its appearance, and I truly view a beautiful beer as a real thing of beauty.
Me too. And of course it is a joke by Beth. She is as geeky as anyone about her own hobbies, so don't be offended. I also think of a beer as beautiful in all the myriad ways of beauty.
BTW, Happy New Year!
Luke wrote in his banana beer post (and I have NO idea how to link the blog here) "First and foremost, it is a beautiful pour."
...And that doesn't sound geeky?? How can you say that with a stright face?
And, no, my hobbies aren't geeky. As I was explaining to Matt just the other day, there isn't a single geeky thing about me dancing around the kitchen in celebration of finding my great-great-grandfather as a two-year-old in the 1860 Missouri census. Everyone enjoys spending all day hunched in front of a computer looking for their dead relatives. I'm definitely not geeky.
